Lily Kiaras EP Roses (The New Orleans Sessions) releases 20 May 2022 on Zip Records.  https://lilykiara.nl

Roses is a small collection of live and studio recordings from New Orleans, recorded while on tour in 2018. It includes songs with tour mate, friend and guitar virtuoso Jimmy Robinson and local musicians Tom Marron on harmonica and violin and Michael Skinkus on percussion. All previously unrecorded songs.
While we’re not touring across the pond yet, we’ll celebrate with a few gigs in Amsterdam! This time with Felicity Provan on trumpet and vocals, Joost Buis on lap steel guitar, Lily Kiara on guitar and vocals. We’ll play songs from the EP as well as newer songs from the past two years.

A video with the solo version of the title song Roses is released 20 May as well. Created by Clelia Patrono with many thanks to Tictac Art Centre.

This afternoon you can also hear the poetry from South-African poet Julia-Beth Harris. Lily and Julia-Beth met at Mezrab in Amsterdam during a few storytelling nights when they both were sharing songs and poetry. ‘I am moved by her poetry: emotional yet spacious, multi-layered yet with simplicity. I’m excited that Julia-Beth will be there to share this afternoon with us. Come and marvel in the quiet strength.’

Julia-Beth Harris

A digital native with literary instincts
Born in Cape Town, as the youngest of a lively family, Julia-Beth’s first role was that of observer.
Crafting this attentiveness into a lifelong practice of writing and documenting ultimately led to a study in creative writing at the International Writer’s Collective in Amsterdam – where she now lives and works. With degrees in both Graphic and Fashion Design, her words embody a visual, multi-layered quality.
Arising from a place of inherent listening and child-like wonder, Julia-Beth develops an emotional connection with the work and translates it into words demonstrating an individual yet impactful point of view.
