Expo: Opening Juliane Goustard

“Red, radiant and roaring; or motionless, worn down, caught in a moment of pause. Red cars, which once ruled the roads and cut through the night with their blood-red color, like racing cars on a circuit, now feel like relics of the past. Yet, despite their decline, tinged with nostalgia, cars are still red.
This series is not a catalog, but a photographic exploration of the symbolism of the red car, shaped by chance encounters and fleeting sightings around a corner.
The project began in 2017 in Nantes, France, during my studies, when a professor simply asked us to create a photo series. A few days later, I came across two quirky red cars and photographed them, which sparked the idea of this work. After a break, I resumed the project, collecting red cars glimpsed in unexpected settings. First held at the OZO Bellevue Station in France in 2025, the Cars Are Red exhibition is now heading to another gas station: this time in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. As it travels from one station to the next, the exhibition venue becomes an extension of its theme: a place of passage, pause, and contemplation.
The journeys of this exhibition take shape in an embroidered jacket, inspired by the blue workwear of gas station attendants and mechanics, and the mosaics of patches on racing suits. This garment evolves over time, mirroring the life of the exhibition itself.”
